The Senator in charge of an inquiry into the wine industry's woes says the industry is short on solutions.

The Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Committee launched a broad based inquiry into the industry in March, with hearings commencing in Adelaide on Thursday.

National, state, and regional industry and representative bodies, along with representatives from Accolade Wines, Angoves Family Winemakers, and Yalumba Wine Company, appeared before the committee as witnesses.

The committee's chair, Western Australian Labor senator, Glen Sterle, recalled being part of a similar inquiry launched in 2005 and said many of the problems the industry faces are the same.
