Adelaide (Parkside) - Vincenzo's Cucina Vera - BYO & Lic

Postby Guest 389 » Sun Feb 15, 2009 6:32 pm

Cuisine: Italian (some modern twists)

Service: Very good - full service. Lara's a charm!

Food: Very Good to excellent. You must try the house made salumi. A recent highlight was 600 day cured wagyu scotch rolled like "bresola" - outstanding! House-aged Angus beef is very special and cooked on a wood-grill. Modern touches and some surprises. One of the few restaurants in Australia I'll order pasta at. Amongst the best cooking in town.

Value: Very good (expect to pay $50 pp for entree/main/veg) for what you're getting.

Ambience: Generally subdued, elegant but casual.

Glassware: Very good.

Wine list: Short but with some interesting gems. It'd be good to see a little further depth. But with BYO as an option, who is to complain?

BYO Details: Yes, just mention it when booking. $20 per bottle officially but often less depending on what you bring and how nice you are.

Offline Prospect: Possibly very good - just need to negotiate with Lara and Vincenzo - they're both young and interested in ideas to attract punters.

Score: 17.5/20.

Contact details: 77 Unley Road, Parkside. Tel (08) 8271 1000.

Edited to reflect evolution of cooking - it's been consistently excellent for months now. It's a real gem. Has anyone else tried it?

I don't believe they are open Sunday.

Usually it's lunch Thu & Fri, Dinner Tue-Sat - but as suggested a quick call would be best.

Had dinner there about 3 weeks ago and it was fabulous. Took friends from Sydney who were previously in the restaurant game and they were blown away, the comment being "If this place was in inner Sydney, it would be full and the chef could charge twice what he was asking here without any problems."

Highlights were a braised octopus dish, a rabbit tortellini and (as always) the house-made salumi. Drank (among other things) a 1990 Craiglee shiraz which lived up to the hype. A glorious example of aged shiraz.

Love this place and will keep coming back as often as I can.

Re-visited recently and I think it's better than before.

No menu now - just a 'surprise' menu based on your budget and preferences/allergies.

Wine list still needs a bit of work but BYO (for decent bottles) is welcomed.
